"ryo koizumi" big pocket overshirt beige
For our first Spring 2022 Artist Series we brought Ryo Koizumi, a calligraphy artist we first collaborated with in 2020, back into the studio for a long awaited second collaboration.
Ryo Koizumi, a former gardener who transitioned into becoming an artist, started as an active calligraphy artist in 2016, and in 2019 came out with his now iconic “Enso” series, a series of artworks that displayed intricate continuous calligraphy strokes in the shape of a circle.
We at Sillage fell in love with Ryo’s art in 2020, and it’s safe to say we’ve fallen for him and his art all over again.
Our 2nd collection with him will consist of our big pocket shirt silhouette, our gilet silhouette, and the fabric we sourced for the collection is a beautiful high density cotton twill with a bounce finish. The fabric is thin, but because it has a twill weave it still creates bulging shapes on the wearer while also being easy to maintain, resistant to wrinkles or tears, with a long-lasting luxuriously durable feel, making it the perfect material for the summer.
Similar to how our last collection prominently displayed Ryo’s art printed on our shirts, our new collection will again display his intricately designed calligraphy circles, but with a more minimal approach - each big pocket shirt/gilet in the series will feature Ryo Koizumi’s incredibly detailed artwork in columns of three on the front, going along both the left and right sides of each piece. The backs of the big pocket shirts/gilets will also feature a column of three calligraphy circles as well.
My partner and I have been working hard to advance our designs here at Sillage without losing the brand’s identity, our latest focus being on creating a shirt that goes beyond the typical “shirt”, and the new “Wide Pocket Overshirt” is the long-awaited fruit of our labor.
When designing a shirt, it’s always important to understand the fabric you’re working with, as different fabrics will almost always result in different shapes, and our new design fits perfectly with the collage of up-cycled antique fabrics we’ve chosen for our upcoming Sillage Artisanal Collection.
As expected, we’ve kept the Sillage DNA in the design of the shirt by giving it a wide and long body, with oversized cuffs firmly attached to the sleeves in order to create slack in the shape of the sleeves themselves – a quality that rounds out the shirt as a whole and creates optimum balance in design. The jacket also has big pockets on both the left and the right side, resulting in a look that closely resembles a blouson, while the heaviness of the fabric on the body creates a firm drape that adds an air of elegance to any outfit.
All in all, we feel like our new Overshirt is perfect in every way, and we plan to make this level of perfection our new standard here at Sillage.

身幅も着丈も袖口もオーバーサイズながら、カフスがしっかりとあることにより袖のたるみを演出でき、最適なバランスを導き出します。
シャツというカテゴリーのデザインながら、生地により大きく表情を変えることも魅力です。
ジャケット生地では両サイドのビッグポケットがまるでブルゾンのようなイメージになりますし、シャツ生地ではしっかりとドレープが出てエレガントさを演出します。
